One of the ways you can ensure that your skin remains healthy, supple and smooth is by using a face mask on a regular basis. This can be done once a week or twice a week to remove any excess oil, reduce the size of the skin pores, improve moisture content and nourish your skin.

If you have any whiteheads or blackheads, the face mask will help to reduce them. The facial mask can be home made or manufactured. To get the benefits of a facial mask, make sure that you use it in the right way. Choose a time when there are no interruptions around you.

Follow the following tips when you are applying your facial mask.

  • If you are using a new brand of facial mask, try it on a less visible part of your skin such as behind the ear; especially if your skin is sensitive.
  • facial maskHair should be tied away from the face with a headband to prevent the facial mask from getting on your hair. It will also ensure that you apply the mask on each part of the face.
  • To make the mask more effective, clean your face and neck meticulously using a gentle cleanser for about two minutes and rinse using water that is lukewarm. Let your skin dry off completely to make sure that the mask is applied on skin that is clean and dry.
  • Steam your face for about two or five minutes to open your pores to ensure the mask works effectively.
  • The best way to apply the facial mask is by using your fingers since the warmth on your fingers makes it easy to spread it. Put some of the face mask on your palm and spread it on your face.
  • Begin applying the mask on your forehead while lightly rubbing it on the skin. Work the mask down your face including the cheeks, chin and nose until you get to the neck. The mask should never be put on the lips or skin on the eyes.
  • Once you have done this, you can leave the mask on for some time as instructed on the pack you bought it in. If you had made the facial mask yourself, you should make sure that you leave it until it sets properly. Avoid making facial expressions while you still have the mask on. It is preferable if you lie on your bed and keep your eyes closed.
  • When the mask has set and the required time is over, you should rinse out the facial mask using some warm water. After rinsing, you can use a cleanser that is mild on your face to make sure that you remove the facial mask completely.
  • When you remove the entire facial mask, you should use a soft towel to pat your face and then apply some moisturizer on it. A tonic or a hydrating cream can also be used on the skin once you remove the mask.
